ISIL suffers more setbacks in Mosul offensive

Iraqi forces have made new progress on the eastern, northern and southern fronts of the Mosul offensive, a military official told Diyaruna Monday (December 5th).

"Iraqi forces have over the past hours rolled into new areas of al-Masaref, al-Muthanna and al-Eelam neighbourhoods in eastern Mosul, following a swift attack by our joint army, Counter-Terrorism Service and 1st rapid response regiment forces," Ninawa Operations commander Nejim Edin Karim al-Jubury said.

On the southern front, large areas of Albu Youssef have been liberated, including a big farm, he said.

"As to the northern front, Qulan Tabah, Qouri Ghreiban, al-Drawish, and Abu Jarbua villages have been retaken following the withdrawal of ISIL terrorists from them," he noted.

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) has suffered heavy losses in the battles, he said, with at least 40 of its fighters killed and several of its vehicles destroyed.
