Coalition strike cuts off ISIL re-supply route in Mosul

An international coalition airstrike on Tuesday (November 22nd) destroyed a bridge over the Tigris river in central Mosul to stop the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) from rotating its forces in the Iraqi city, AFP reported.

The strike on Mosul's "third bridge" leaves a British-era bridge in the centre as the last crossing of the Tigris river running through the city.

Coalition spokesman Col. John Dorrian said ISIL fighters have been using the bridges to re-supply the eastern side of the city, "essentially rotating their forces".

"We are not going to let that happen," he told AFP.

The fighting inside the city so far has focused on eastern neighbourhoods, which elite counter-terrorism and army forces entered earlier this month.

Also on Tuesday, Iraqi forces finished liberating all of al-Tahrir neighbourhood and raised the Iraqi flag on the last buildings in al-Benouk neighbourhood in eastern Mosul, Ninawa Operations commander Nejim Edin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

Meanwhile on the city's southern front, the army and Federal Police forces "have come closer to retaking al-Sabaawi and al-Horriya, near the airport," he added.

It is Tigris, not Euphrates, which goes through Mosul and divides it into two halves. I hope you’ll be accurate in the news because this gives you credibility and professionalism.
