Senior ISIL leader killed in western Anbar

Iraqi airstrikes killed a senior "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) leader in western Anbar, the Anbar Operations Command said Wednesday (November 16th).

"Acting on intelligence, the Iraqi air force launched two airstrikes targeting an ISIL rest house in al-Qaim, near the Syrian border," Anbar Operations commander Maj. Gen. Ismail al-Mahalawi said in a press conference.

"Abu Saqr, a terrorist who assumes a key position [within ISIL] and serves as the agriculture minister in ISIL’s 'Wilayat al-Furat', has been killed," al-Mahalawi said.

"Seven of [Abu Saqr's] aides have also been killed and weapons and explosives in their possession have been destroyed in the operation," he said.
