Iraqi forces fighting violent battles in Mosul

Since the early hours of Wednesday (November 16th), Iraqi forces have been fighting violent battles against the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) inside Mosul, on its eastern front, Ninawa Operations commander Nejim Edin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

"Forces from the army and Counter-Terrorism Service have made progress in three neighbourhoods where fighting has been raging since yesterday," he said.

"Twenty terrorists have been killed in battles in the neighbourhoods of al-Qadisiya al-Thaniya, al-Muthanna and Aden," he said.

Iraqi forces are also making progress on the other fronts of fighting, al-Jubury said, noting that they have recaptured the village of Tal al-Akub to the south of Mosul, and the village of al-Nawasi to the north.

"Meanwhile, engineering teams continue to remove ISIL remnants of war from the villages and towns that have recently been liberated to the west," he said.
