Dozens of families evacuated ahead of Heet island offensive

Iraqi forces evacuated more than 170 Iraqi families from Heet island ahead of an imminent attack to retake the area from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), Anbar police command said Monday (October 3rd).

"Joint Iraqi forces have created safe corridors and evacuated 173 families from Heet island and the areas on the two banks of the Euphrates River, and transferred them to a safe place," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

"Evacuation is underway in preparation for storming the island," Erzaij said.
