Iraqi forces, coalition warplanes strike ISIL in northern Iraq

Iraqi forces thwarted a large-scale "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) attack on Talul al-Baj area on the border of Salaheddine and Ninawa provinces, the Ministry of Defence said Tuesday (September 27th).

"Iraqi forces, supported by international coalition fighter jets, repelled an ISIL attack involving seven vehicles packed with explosives and gunmen who tried to take control of Talul al-Baj on the border of Salaheddine and Ninawa," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

Fifteen ISIL gunmen were killed in the attack, he said.

Also on Tuesday, coalition aircraft killed at least 30 ISIL elements and destroyed two of the group's sites in Hamam al-Alil area, Ninawa operations commander Nejim Edin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

The operation was carried out in co-ordination with Iraqi ground forces, he added.
