Iraqi forces repel ISIL attack in al-Khalidiya Island

Dozens of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) fighters were killed or wounded when Iraqi forces, supported by coalition warplanes, repelled their attack on army positions east of Ramadi early on Monday (September 26th), Anbar Operations Command said.

"Thirteen ISIL elements were killed and more than 20 were wounded when our forces repelled an attack involving vehicles packed with explosives, followed by an assault by gunmen on army positions in al-Khalidiya Island," Anbar Military Operations Commander Maj. Gen. Ismail al-Mahalawi told Diyaruna.

"International coalition fighter jets responded to a request for urgent assistance and destroyed a number of car bombs before they could reach the location of our military forces," he said.
