International coalition aircraft killed a senior "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) leader in an airstrike near al-Shura in southern Mosul, the Kurdish region's security council said Tuesday (September 20th).
"Senior ISIL leader Abu Abdul Rahman al-Shishani, also known as Tamas al-Shishani, was killed in an international coalition airstrike in southern Mosul," the council said in a statement.
Al-Shishani was killed along with a number of his aides in a September 17th airstrike, the statement said.
