Aide to ISIL's al-Baghdadi killed in Iraq airstrike

Iraqi aircraft on Monday (September 12th) targeted a meeting of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) leaders in the Mutaibija area, located between Diyala and Salaheddine provinces in eastern Iraq, Diyala provincial council officials said.

Six senior ISIL leaders of the so-called Wilayat Diyala and Salaheddine, including a close aide to ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, were killed in the airstrike, security committee chairman Sadeq al-Hussaini said in a statement.

"The airstrike, carried out Monday evening, was based on prior intelligence confirming the presence of a number of terrorists in a building for an ISIL leaders meeting," the statement said.
