Iraqi forces kill 70 ISIL gunmen near Mosul

Iraqi forces repelled a large-scale attack by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) near Mosul, killing 70 of the group's members, Ninawa Operations Command said Tuesday (September 13th).

"The Ninawa Operations Command, supported by international coalition aircraft, repelled at dawn on Tuesday an ISIL terrorist attack in which the group tried to approach our units from al-Hod, al-Hadhar and al-Shabali pivot within the 15th Infantry Division and the 37th Brigade area of responsibility," the command said in a statement.

"Seventy ISIL elements were killed and seven of their vehicles were destroyed in the clashes which lasted for more than five hours," the statement said, noting that the Iraqi security forces did not sustain any losses.
