Iraqi forces mount security operation in northern Diyala

Iraqi forces launched a security operation to crack down on "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements in a number of villages in al-Azim district, northern Diyala, based on intelligence confirming their presence in the area, the Ministry of Interior said Thursday (September 8th).

"Army and police forces, supported by helicopters, are taking part in the search operations targeting villages in al-Azim, including Hajji Suhail, Arab and Albu Nafeh villages," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Diyaruna.

"The campaign is aimed at clearing the area of ISIL pockets and seizing explosives and weapons in their possession," he said.
