Iraq rolls out security plan for Eid festivities

Provinces across Iraq have tightened security measures ahead of Eid al-Adha in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defence said Thursday (September 8th).

"The plan, prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, aims at securing tourist areas, public places and gardens, by setting up checkpoints and deploying security forces to prevent potential suicide operations and armed attacks by the 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' (ISIL)," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Diyaruna.

"Security forces have set up telephone numbers to ensure speedy communication with citizens," he said, noting that those numbers will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Migration and Displacement has launched a new grant that will target more than 140,000 displaced families ahead of Eid.

Each family will receive 250,000 Iraqi dinars to coincide with Eid, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the grants target families in different provinces across Iraq where terrorist and military operations took place.
