Syrians return to Jarabulus after ISIL ouster

Hundreds of civilians on Wednesday (September 7th) began returning to the border town of Jarabulus in northern Syria, two weeks after the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) was ousted from the town, AFP reported.

Loaded with luggage and domestic items, around 250 residents headed for the frontier and queued for customs inspection at the border gate outside the Turkish town of Karkamis.

Held by ISIL since 2013, Jarabulus was retaken by opposition fighters supported by Turkish tanks and aviation on August 24th.

Turkey is home to some 2.7 million refugees from the conflict in Syria.
