Joint forces to clear Diyala-Salaheddine border

Joint forces have set out to clear the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) from an area on the Diyala-Salaheddine border so displaced residents can return, the Iraqi army’s Tigris Operations Command said Tuesday (August 9th).

Iraqi army, Diyala police and other supporting forces on Tuesday morning kicked off large-scale operations to drive ISIL fighters from the border area of Mutaibija, command spokesman Col. Majed al-Nasrawi told Diyaruna.

“Clearing Mutaibija of ISIL elements is very important as it will disrupt ISIL communications between the northern provinces and central and eastern Iraq,” al-Nasrawi said.
