Over 180 ISIL fighters killed in al-Khalidiya Island

Iraqi forces killed over 180 "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements in battles to liberate al-Khalidiya Island, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Tuesday (August 2nd).

“More than 180 ISIL elements have been killed, a number of vehicles packed with explosives and some fortifications have been destroyed, and their heavy and medium weapons, mortars and large quantities of explosives have been seized in military operations that ended with the liberation of al-Khalidiya Island,” ministry undersecretary Aqeel al-Khazali said in a press conference held in al-Khalidiya Island, east of Ramadi.

Al-Khazali said a 90-day plan would soon be set into motion to reconstruct the area so displaced families can return.
