Blast rocks northern Baghdad market

A blast at a market in northern Baghdad killed at least seven civilians and wounded at least 29, AFP reported Tuesday (July 12th).

“A suicide bomber driving a vehicle packed with explosives blew it up at al-Rashidiya outdoor market northern Baghdad at an early hour Tuesday morning,” Iraqi Ministry of Defense spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Mawtani.

“The security forces have opened an investigation into the attack,” he said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack but the "Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) frequently carries out suicide bombings targeting civilians.
