ISIL 'sharia judge' killed in western Anbar

Iraqi forces killed an "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) "sharia judge" and five of his aides in the western Anbar city of al-Qaim, Anbar Operations Command said Tuesday (July 5th).

The operation was carried out by “a joint force of the police’s special operations troops and the Iraqi army’s rapid response unit and Counter-Terrorism Agency," Anbar Military Operations Commander Maj. Gen. Ismail al-Mahalawi told Al-Shorfa.

After clashing with ISIL fighters at a key building in town, Iraqi forces killed ISIL "sharia judge" Ibrahim al-Shami, a Syrian national, and five of his aides, he said.

"Important information and documents were seized in the operation, the place was blown up, and explosives, weapons and ISIL vehicles were destroyed before the force left the site,” he said.
