31 ISIL gunmen killed in northern Salaheddine

Iraqi police killed dozens of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements in clashes that broke out Tuesday (June 28th) evening near Baiji in northern Salaheddine province, Federal Police Chief Maj. Gen. Raed Shaker Jawdat said.

"Federal Police units killed 31 ISIL elements and destroyed quantities of ammunition, a mortar and a vehicle carrying a heavy machine gun during violent clashes last night in al-Fatha and al-Mahatta al-Harariya, north of Baiji," Jawdat said in a statement.

The army’s air force provided aerial support in the battles which broke out after ISIL elements tried to advance towards both areas, he said.
