The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) is facing a "major decline" in the western province of Anbar and its end there is drawing near, Anbar governor Suhaib al-Rawi said Friday (June 24th).
Iraqi forces have already liberated the cities of al-Karma, al-Saqlawiya, Fallujah, Ramadi, al-Khalidiya, Heet, Kubaysa and al-Rutba within one year, he told Mawtani.
"The only cities in the province that remain under ISIL control are al-Qaim, Husayba and western Anbar villages, and we are working to liberate them soon," he said.
"ISIL no longer controls the province and we are about to serve a coup de grâce to its alleged [caliphate] project," he said.
