Army forces overtook new areas in northern Fallujah, with only al-Julan neighbourhood remaining under "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) control, Fallujah operations commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Wahhab al-Saadi announced Friday (June 24th).
"Iraqi forces have retaken al-Shurta, al-Muallemeen and al-Jughaifi 1 neighbourhoods in northern Fallujah," he told Al-Shorfa. "They also cleared the main roads in these areas and are currently preparing to move into al-Julan neighbourhood."
"Al-Julan is the last remaining neighbourhood under ISIL control in Fallujah," he said.
Technical teams are working simultaneously with the army to clear the city of landmines, he added.
