Iraqi forces recapture Zangura, al-Halabsa from ISIL

Joint Iraqi forces have liberated the areas of Zangura and al-Halabsa in north-west Ramadi from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), the police in Anbar province said Wednesday (June 22nd).

"Army, police and special operations forces have managed to clear the areas of Zangura and al-Halabsa," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Erzaij said in a press conference.

They destroyed two car bombs intended to be used to target combat units and killed dozens of ISIL elements, he said.

"Security forces have started searching all homes, buildings and shops in the liberated areas to remove improvised explosive devices (IEDs), dismantle booby-trapped houses and secure the areas for the return of displaced residents," Erzaij said.
