Iraqi forces are steadily advancing to the remaining parts of Fallujah along the Tigris River and the Fallujah Dam as part of the battles to liberate the city from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), the Ministry of Defence announced Wednesday (June 22nd).
Army forces supported by army aircraft have begun clearing the area of al-Hasi, south-west of Fallujah, as they advance from Ameriyat al-Fallujah, the ministry said in a statement.
A sniper and a group of ISIL elements were killed, the statement said.
The military operation "aims to surround ISIL's elements, deplete their numbers and make sure they are not able to escape to other areas", the statement said.
