Iraqi forces retake government complex in central Fallujah

Iraqi forces have reached central Fallujah and raised the Iraqi flag on the government complex in the central town area, the Fallujah operations command announced Friday (June 17th).

"Iraqi forces have retaken the government complex in central Fallujah and the town’s hospital," Fallujah operations commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Wahab al-Saadi told Al-Shorfa.

Battles are still underway to eliminate the remaining "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)" pockets, he said.

"The city is under our military control, and we shall deal with the remaining terrorist pockets in the coming hours," he said.

Security forces continue to make progress in the remaining areas of central Fallujah, he said, adding that they are clearing roads and buildings from the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) ISIL had planted to impede the progress of Iraqi troops.
