2 senior ISIL elements killed in Iraq security ops

Iraqi forces killed several "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) elements, including two leaders, in separate security operations in the country, officials announced Wednesday (June 15th).

"Forces from the 17th Division killed Abu Sediq, leader of the so-called 'southern province', together with four others, in an operation targeting their hideout in Umm al-Tanaki in Qara Ghul, 25 kilometres south of Baghdad," Ministry of Interior spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Al-Shorfa.

"The army aims to secure the Iraqi units stationed on the outskirts of Fallujah and ensure that no terrorist cells can target them from behind," he said.

Meanwhile in Mosul, an international coalition airstrike killed the ISIL military commander of al-Nasr village south of Mosul, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

"The military leader of al-Nasr village, Abu Abbas, was killed in an international coalition airstrike in Makhmour district," the statement said.

"Operations continue to make progress until the full liberation of Ninawa province and its capital Mosul," the statement added.
