Iraqi forces on Tuesday (June 14th) liberated a strategic water facility on the Euphrates River south-east of Fallujah, two years after the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) had captured it, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said.
"Joint Iraqi forces have retaken a dam on the Euphrates River from ISIL," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul told Al-Shorfa.
The troops have also seized control of surrounding areas, inflicting heavy losses on ISIL and forcing it to withdraw from the area, he said, noting that the dam did not sustain any damages during the operation.
