Joint Iraqi forces kicked off an operation to liberate al-Jubail neighbourhood in southern Fallujah after retaking nearby al-Shohada from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) the day before, Fallujah Operations Commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Wahab al-Saadi said Tuesday (June 14th).
"Iraqi forces at dawn on Tuesday advanced towards al-Jubail and clashed with ISIL gunmen, inflicting heavy losses on them in lives and assets," he told Al-Shorfa.
"Our troops will be advancing slowly to avoid the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and landmines which ISIL planted throughout the neighbourhood," he said, adding that the Fallujah liberation operation is going according to plan.
