Iraqi forces have recaptured al-Shohada 1, Fallujah’s largest neighbourhood in the southern part of the city, from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), the Ministry of Interior announced Monday (June 13th).
"Counter-Terrorism Agency and army forces have fully retaken al-Shohada 1, Fallujah’s largest neighbourhood," ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Saad Maan told Al-Shorfa.
"Joint forces have started clearing the neighbourhood of landmines before moving to the adjacent neighbourhood," he said, adding that they have inflicted heavy losses on ISIL who lost 42 fighters during the offensive.
