Iraqi forces killed 15 "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) gunmen as they were attempting to overtake a chemical fertiliser plant in the Makhul mountains, northern Tikrit, the Iraqi federal police said Friday (June 10th).
"Forces from the federal police's 13th Brigade killed 15 ISIL gunmen, including non-Iraqis, in fierce clashes Thursday night in Makhul mountains," Federal Police Chief Maj. Gen. Raed Shaker Jawdat said in a statement.
A bulldozer and two vehicles mounted with heavy automatic weapons were destroyed in the operation, he said.
"ISIL elements were trying to attack and overtake a chemical fertiliser plant in the Makhul mountains, but our forces foiled the attack," Jawdat said.
