Kirkuk police bust ISIL cell behind oil well bombing

The Kirkuk police on Friday (June 10th) arrested a six-member "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) cell who was behind the attack on oil wells in the province last month.

"Joint police and Asayish forces raided two buildings in the areas of al-Sikak and al-Iskan in western and south-western Kirkuk and arrested six gunmen who formed a terror cell," police spokesman Col. Salam al-Jaff told al-Shorfa.

The arrests led police also to seize weapons, ammunition and explosives, he said, adding that the detainees are behind attacks in Kirkuk last month, including a rocket attack on an oil field that set fire to two oil wells.
