Iraqi forces ready to storm Fallujah: commander

Iraqi forces have liberated all villages around Fallujah and are prepared to storm the centre of the city, Fallujah operations commander Lt. Gen. Abdul Wahab al-Saadi announced on Wednesday (June 8th).

"Our forces have recaptured all areas around Fallujah and have now reached the administrative borders of the city, just 500 metres away from al-Julan neighbourhood to the north and al-Shohada neighbourhood to the south," al-Saadi told Al-Shorfa.

Joint forces are now preparing to storm the city, he said, adding that they are advancing with caution because of civilians trapped inside and the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).

"Within the coming days, we will announce the liberation of Fallujah," he said.
