Iraq sets up 3 camps for displaced families near Mosul

Ninawa's local government is setting up new camps to receive internally displaced people (IDPs) fleeing from Mosul amid expectations of new displacement waves, provincial council spokesman Mohammed al-Hamdani said Tuesday (June 7th).

"In co-operation with the Ministry of Migration and Displacement and the Ministry of Defence, and under the auspices of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ninawa started to set up three large camps near Mosul," he said.

The camps will accommodate a large number of people and provide for all their needs, he told Al-Shorfa.

This is part of the government’s preparations to retake Mosul from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), he said.
