Iraqi forces repel ISIL attack on Kubaysa

Iraqi forces repelled a large-scale "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) attack on Kubaysa in western Anbar on Wednesday (June 1st), and killed 20 gunmen, the Ministry of Defence said.

"The army, backed by tribal fighters, repelled a large-scale ISIL attack aimed at occupying the city of Kubaysa," said ministry spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasul.

Twenty ISIL gunmen were killed in the operation, he told Al-Shorfa, including three suicide bombers wearing explosive vests who were barricaded inside buildings at the northern entrance of the city.

"Five ISIL elements wounded in the attack were arrested by the army and taken to a security detention facility," he added.
