Dozens of families evacuated from Fallujah

Iraqi forces have evacuated 250 families fleeing from areas controlled by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in Fallujah, the Anbar operations command said Wednesday (June 1st).

"Joint forces have over the past few days evacuated 250 families from areas under ISIL control to the south, west and north of Fallujah," Anbar military operations commander Maj. Gen. Ismail al-Mahalawi said in a press conference.

"In co-operation with government committees in Anbar, security forces transferred the families to safe areas in al-Khalediya and Ameriyat al-Fallujah, and provided them with medical and food supplies," he said.

"The joint forces' priorities lie in protecting civilians in all areas of Fallujah and opening safe corridors for their exit despite the fact that the terrorist group is using them as human shields," he added.
