2 Iraqi soldiers killed in ISIS attack in Salaheddine

Two Iraqi soldiers were killed in "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) attacks on checkpoints in Salaheddine province, Iraq’s Ministry of Defence said Tuesday (October 22nd).

ISIS elements on Monday attacked two security checkpoints in the Allas oilfields area, south of Tikrit, the ministry said in a statement.

An improvised explosive device (IED) simultaneously detonated against a security forces vehicle in the same area on Monday, killing two soldiers, it said.

The force that tried to evacuate the soldiers came under direct fire, and three soldiers were wounded, the ministry said.

Iraqi forces in the area were reinforced, it said, adding that an operation has been launched "to crack down on the terrorists who carried out the attacks".
