Senior ISIS element, 4 aides killed in Salaheddine province

An "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) commander and four of his aides have been killed in an army operation in the northern region of Hamreen, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said Wednesday (October 2nd).

"In co-operation with the Salaheddine Police Command, forces of the Military Intelligence Directorate arrested a terrorist group in the Hamreen mountains in Salaheddine province," the ministry said in a statement.

"The group is led by Talib Jarw al-Izzawi, a dangerous terrorist, who was killed along four of his aides in clashes with security forces after their hideout was discovered," it said.

The army's warplanes destroyed the hideout "to prevent other terrorists from re-using it", the statement said.
