Iraqi security forces arrest 3 ISIS elements in Kirkuk

Three "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements have been arrested in two separate operations in Kirkuk province, the Iraqi police said Thursday (September 12th).

They were arrested based on prior intelligence and tip-offs by residents of two villages near al-Riyadh, south-west Kirkuk, Lt. Col. Mohammed Hassan al-Obaidi of Kirkuk police told Diyaruna.

"One of the terrorists confessed to having taken part in killing the members of a policeman’s family, including children, in a horrific crime that took place in al-Iftekharat village, southern Kirkuk, two years ago," he said.

The militants, who had been living in hiding, were located after weeks of field monitoring, he said, noting that "they will be referred to court once their statements have been taken".
