Iraqi army to rehabilitate bridges, roads in Anbar

The Iraqi army on Tuesday (September 10th) kicked off a large-scale campaign to rehabilitate areas and towns in Anbar province damaged in the battles to oust the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS).

After completing the removal of landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the Iraqi army's engineering units began to help locals in al-Qaim, al-Rutba, Heet and other towns return to normal life, al-Jazeera and al-Badiya Commander Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Muhammadi told Diyaruna.

The units are rehabilitating roads, bridges, and service buildings that had been knocked out of service as a result of ISIS attacks, he said.

"Through this campaign, the Iraqi army seeks to be a defender of security and a partner in stability and development of services," he said.

The campaign was widely welcomed by locals, he said, adding that it "will lead to continuous co-operation between security forces and citizens".
