ISIS leader arrested in Samarra

An "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) element involved in many terrorist operations against security forces and civilians has been arrested in Samarra, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said on Thursday (August 22nd).

Continuous monitoring by the Interior Ministry’s Intelligence Agency has led to the arrest of an ISIS leader wanted according to article 4 of the anti-terrorism law, it said in a statement.

"The detainee had worked for the so-called 'wilayat Samarra', and was behind many terrorist operations against security forces and civilians," it said, noting that "he was referred to court so the necessary investigations can be completed".
