Al-Baghdadi aide arrested in Anbar

A close aide to "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been arrested in Anbar province, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence announced Monday (August 19th).

"The Military Intelligence Agency has arrested an ISIS emir who is a close aide to criminal Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Heet, Anbar province," the ministry said in a statement.

In a carefully-planned operation, Iraqi army forces arrested "one of the most senior terrorists who had served as the military emir of Heet before the liberation [from ISIS]", the ministry said in a statement.

He is the "father of a number of terrorists, some of whom were killed by the security forces, while another son blew himself up in a suicide operation, and another fled the country after sustaining wounds during a liberation battle", it said.

The detainee "had displaced a number of families and forced security personnel in Heet to announce repentance and hand in their weapons", the statement added.

"He also recruited youth by force to join ISIS," it said, noting that he is one of the most senior wanted elements according to article 4 of the anti-terrorism law.
