Iraqi forces free 2 hostages kidnapped by ISIS

Two Iraqis held hostage by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) were freed in a special security operation in southern Kirkuk Sunday (August 11th) evening, the Iraqi police in Kirkuk said.

After several days of monitoring, joint security forces from the Kirkuk and Federal Police carried out "a high-level operation" in Wadi Zghaytoun, southern Kirkuk, and freed two citizens from ISIS, said Col. Mohammed al-Obaidi, the deputy commander of Kirkuk police's special operations forces.

The two hostages, Hazem Ahmed Aziz and Bassem Rahim Dahr, were kidnapped by ISIS two weeks ago, and have now been returned to their families whom ISIS was extorting for money to release them, he told Diyaruna.

"A terrorist found inside the building where the two victims were detained was also arrested in the operation," he added.
