Iraqi citizens' tip-offs help dismantle ISIS cells in Anbar

Iraqi security forces in July have received numerous phone calls from citizens that have helped arrest wanted individuals, dismantle terror cells and thwart attacks, Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij said Monday (August 5th).

"Security forces treat tip-offs from Anbar residents as an important source of information that helps them crack down on 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria' (ISIS) remnants and wanted terror suspects," he told Diyaruna.

"More than 40 calls from locals who provided extremely important information last month have helped arrest terrorists, dismantle several ISIS cells and seize weapons and explosives," he said.

The tip-offs have also helped thwart "a terrorist operation involving a vehicle packed with explosives", he added.
