IRGC says 5 'terrorists' killed near western border

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Thursday (July 11th) they had killed five "terrorists" in clashes near the western border with Iraq, AFP reported.

"A terrorist team that intended to infiltrate into our country from the western borders yesterday (Wednesday)... was completely destroyed," the IRGC said in a statement published by their official website Sepahnews.

The clashes occurred in the vicinity of the city of Javanrud, located 460 kilometres west of Tehran in Kermanshah province.

The statement did not say whether the dead were from Kurdish opposition or extremist groups, both of which have previously entered Iran from neighbouring Iraq.
