6 ISIS elements arrested in Mosul

The Iraqi police has arrested six "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements this week in several areas of Mosul, the Ninawa Operations Command said Tuesday (June 25th).

The detainees, who were using aliases, were arrested in operations carried out over the past two days based on tips provided by residents, Ninawa police chief Brig. Gen. Hamad Namis al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

"Two of them were involved in major terrorist attacks and horrific crimes, including cutting hands and executions of civilians, during their service with the so-called ISIS al-hesba (religious police) and qadhaa (judiciary) offices," al-Jubury added.

These elements, who had returned to Mosul among the waves of returning displaced people, had changed their residences and were using fake IDs, he said.
