12 dead in exchange of fire in north-west Syria

Twelve civilians were killed Tuesday (May 14th) during exchanges of fire in north-western Syria, including six slain when rockets fired by extremists hit the city of Aleppo, AFP reported.

Aleppo is under the control of the Syrian regime but it is only a short distance from Idlib province, which is controlled by Tahrir al-Sham.

The regime and Russia have intensified attacks on Idlib and neighbouring Aleppo, Hama and Latakia provinces despite a truce deal intended to shield the area from any regime offensive.

On Tuesday, six civilians were killed by rocket attacks by extremist groups in a southern neighbourhood of Aleppo, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Six other civilians were also killed in regime aerial bombardments targeting areas of Idlib or northern Hama province, the Observatory said.

Four of them were killed in the town of Jisr al-Shughur, it said.
