Iraqi forces uncover 2 tunnels linking Iraq to Syria

Iraqi border forces have uncovered two underground tunnels dug by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) and linking Iraqi to Syria, the Anbar Operations Command said Tuesday (May 14th).

One of the tunnels is "two kilometres long and 1.5 metres wide, and includes a chamber for storing weapons, explosives, medicines, blankets, and various tools", commander Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi told Diyaruna.

"Both tunnels were fully destroyed to ensure they can never be reused after the explosives inside were removed for safe disposal," he said.

The tunnels were discovered "thanks to aerial images provided by the international coalition to the Iraqi army", he said.
