Iraq receives new explosives detectors from international coalition

The Iraqi forces have received a new batch of equipment that will help them detect and defuse explosives and landmines from the international coalition fighting the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), the Ninawa Operations Command said Wednesday (May 8th).

This is the second delivery of its type in less than two months, commander Nejim Eddin Karim al-Jubury told Diyaruna.

"The Iraqi army’s military engineering unit received sensors, underground explosives detectors, and other equipment for defusing and jamming detonators used by terrorists in their operations," he said.

"The new support from the international coalition will spare many innocent people’s lives, as the greatest challenge now are the explosives that ISIS has left behind," he said.

The new equipment will enter into service within days after the Iraqi soldiers are trained on how to use it, he noted.
