Coalition destroys ISIS tunnel near Syria border

The international coalition has destroyed an underground "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) hideout in Makr al-Thib in western Anbar, the al-Badiya and al-Jazeera Operations Command said Tuesday (April 30th).

"In co-ordination with the Iraqi army, international coalition warplanes destroyed a 1600-metre long tunnel and a hideout containing weapons and explosives in Makr al-Thib desert, south-west of al-Qaim, along the border with Syria," command spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Obaidi told Diyaruna.

"The place was rigged with explosives and extremely dangerous for ground forces to penetrate it," he said, adding that by destroying it, the international coalition has further weakened ISIS's remnants in the Syria border area.
