Police arrest 3 ISIS elements in western Anbar

Iraqi police in Anbar province on Monday (April 22nd) announced they had arrested three "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements during a security operation in western Anbar.

“A security force from the special operations unit besieged a farm south of al-Rutbah and stormed a building," Anbar police chief Maj. Gen. Hadi Kassar Erzaij told Diyaruna.

Inside the building were three ISIS elements, he said, who were found to be in possession of nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs), light weapons, sums of money and hand grenades, he said.

One of the militants tried to escape and opened fire on security forces, Erzaij said, "but he was besieged and forced to surrender".

The detainees are ISIS elements who fled to the desert after the group was defeated in cities it controlled in western Anbar, he said.
