Local residents report 5 ISIS elements in western Mosul

Five "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) elements who infiltrated Iraq from Syria and settled in western Mosul were arrested after local residents reported them to security forces, Ninawa Operations Command said Friday (April 19th).

In a phone call to the command, a local resident said he and several neighbours noted suspicious movements at a deserted house in al-Baaj, and upon checking the site, found several ISIS elements, said Commander of Ninawa Operations Command’s 2nd Brigade, Lt. Col. Ahmed Farhan al-Issawi.

A force moved to the site and stormed the building, he said, arresting the five extremists, one of whom was injured.

"They had fled battles in Syria and entered Iraq a while ago," he added.

The residents who informed the security forces about the ISIS elements will be "given generous rewards", said al-Issawi.
