Iraqi security forces have arrested a senior member of the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in a joint operation in eastern Diyala, the Iraqi police said Thursday (April 4th).
Joint Iraqi forces arrested the ISIS leader in an operation based on prior intelligence, Diyala police chief Maj. Gen. Faisal al-Abbadi said in a press conference held at the police command in central Baqubah.
"The detainee, who serves as emir of Hamreen area, was arrested with two of his aides," he said, noting that weapons and explosives in their possession were also seized in the "high-level operation".
